Our History

In 1990, Guy and Sandra Vinden purchased 25 acres of land on Gillards Road, Pokolbin, in the Hunter Valley winemaking region.

Soil tests determined that the rich, heavy red clay Hunter Valley soil was ideal for the production of red grapes.

We conducted numerous soil preparation processes for our Pokolbin vineyard including deep ripping, adding gypsum to break up the clay and planting cover cops to balance the soil naturally.

We planted the vineyard trestles and tended the vines for three years before our first harvest in 1998.

Using hand picked grapes, the traditional methods of open concrete fermenters, hand plunging and a basket press, Vinden Estate Wines produces small quantities of premium wines in our onsite Hunter Valley winery.

Angus our eldest, combined with Dan Binet have taken over the wine making from Guy in the past few years, aiming to produce wines of unique regionality reflecting the terroir of the Hunter Valley. Sourcing grapes from 3 vineyards; our own Estate Vineyard where we grow Alicante Bouschet, Shiraz, Gamay Noir and Mourvedre; Somerset Vineyard for Semillon, Verdelho, Chardonnay, Tempranillo and Shiraz and Travena Vineyard for Semillon.
