Our Wines

Vinden Estate produces small quantities of premium wine on-site at our Pokolbin, Hunter Valley vineyard and winery from hand-picked grapes using traditional methods; open fermenters, hand plunging and basket press. Our Hunter Valley wines are aged in oak in the case of both Chardonnay and Shiraz.

Our Hunter Valley wines have been critically acclaimed from the first vintage released from our winery and vineyard in 1998.

Red Wines


2013 Basket Press Shiraz

Vinden Estate’s basket press Shiraz has been made from hand picked grapes using traditional methods; open fermenters and hand plunging. It is one of those soft, elegant Hunter Reds which will drink beautifully young but will have a capacity to age for some years. The berry fruit has a nice touch of new oak aged in both French and American oak for 18 months. The palate is soft and well balanced in the ‘Hunter Burgundy’ way with fine tannins on the finish.


2013 Premium Merlot

Vinden Estate’s Merlot has been made from hand picked grapes using traditional methods; open fermenters and hand plunging. Merlot is a classic grape variety. This current vintage has been aged in both French and American oak producing a lovely soft velvety wine. This wine can be enjoyed on its own and with food the maker’s personal recommendations are red meat or Italian tomato based pasta.


2015 The Basketcase Red – Alicante Bouschet, Tempranillio & Petit Verdot

The Vinden Estate Basketcase Red is new to our range in 2015, aptly named after our eccentric family. The wine is a blend of 50% Alicante Bouschet from our Estate Vineyard, 30% Hunter Valley Tempranillo and 20% Upper Hunter Petit Verdot. This interesting blend (possibly an Australian First) makes a lovely dry fruit forward style of red wine, serve at room temperature with red meat of slightly chilled on a hot summer afternoon. The wine has been aged in both stainless steel and oak barrels to retain the optimum balance between fruit and oak integration.

White Wines


2014 Estate Reserve Verdelho

Vinden Estate’s 2014 Verdelho has been made yet again from excellent fruit and continues the high standard set with our earlier releases. For those of you who enjoy an unwooded fruit driven style I am sure you will enjoy this year’s vintage. Medium bodied, with ripe tropical fruit, refreshing acidity and a lingering finish.
A beautiful wine to be enjoyed with just about anything, or on its own. Hope you enjoy this wine as much as I have.


2015 Chardonnay

Vinden Estate’s 2015 Chardonnay is sourced from a single vineyard, the 30-year-old Allanmere vineyard. An extremely well-balanced wine with, peach and citrus aromas on the bouquet. The palate showcases slight inviting warmth, which enhances a fruit driven style with white peach and vanilla overtones complementing the wine.
Aged 10 months in French Oak.
This is a special wine from a great vintage and whilst drinking beautifully young will reward those who have the patience to cellar it for some 5-7 years.

2015 Semillon

93/100 Hunter Valley Wine Show Silver Medal
Vinden Estate’s 2015 Semillon exemplifies why the Hunter produces the best Semillon in Australia. The variety, which originates from the South West of France, has found its fame in the Hunter Valley.
Sourced from the Trevena Vineyard, planted in 1920 on sandy loam soils, these unirrigated vines are situated along what has become known as the golden mile of Semillon on Hermitage Road. A select portion of the free run juice was separated to make this wine, into a bright, vibrant, modern Hunter Valley Semillon. A beautiful wine which whilst young is fresh and zesty, full of citris and refreshing acidity, but will reward those with patience to cellar for up to 8 years.

2015 Vinden Basketcase Semillon

2015 Vinden Basketcase Semillon – Somerset Vineyard

Gold Medal – Best 2015 Semillon in Class – Australian Small Winemakers Show.
Sourced om the Howard family Somerset Vineyard planted in 1965, on sandy loam soils in Pokolbin. Hand Picked in Mid January, the wine shows the character of the old gnarled vines; concentrated citrus uit, reeshing acidity and delicate minerality. Great early drinking, however patience will be rewarded with cellaring up to 10 years.
“If you have ever met a Vinden (at least om my family), basket case prey much sums us all up, a lile eccentric to say the least; and well, I guess you have to be, growing grapes in the Hunter. In the true Vinden spirit; always wanting to do things our own way, this label forms an offshoot om my parents Vinden Estate Wines. Aſter growing up on a vineyard, ‘The Vinden Basketcase’ celebrates and boles that eccentricity and individuality, sourcing uit om some of the Hunter Valleys most admired vineyards to produce wines of unique regionality.” -Angus Vinden

2015 Alicante Bouschet

Vinden Estate is one of very few wineries in Australia to produce this rare varietal.
Grown on our estate vineyard on red clay, it truly reflects the characteristics of the grape varietal. A fruit forward style, with berries and ripe fruit on the pallet; picked in early January, before fully ripe, the wine resultantly has a beautiful crisp, dry finish, similar to a French provincial Rosé.
It is one of the few grape varietals with red flesh, resulting from a cross in the 1800’s between a Grenache and Petit Bouschet. There is nothing more refreshing than to drink it on a warm day with a salad Nicoise or some spicy Asian Food. This is a delightful wine which, should be drunk young.
